The publicly accessible reference library of the Orff Centre Munich contains almost all publications and the latest new releases on Carl Orff and his work. All editions of sheet music of his works and the Schulwerk are available here.
The artistic and pedagogical work of Carl Orff touches on many fields of knowledge, which are represented with general and special literature in the library's holdings of approx. 3400 items:
- Encyclopaedias on art, culture, literature, music and theatre
- Selected literature on the cultural-historical epochs, especially Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the 20th century.
- literature on individual composers
- Literature on composers and music in the Third Reich
- Journal titles from musicology, music education, cultural and musical life, library and archive areas
The library, with eight workstations and a view of the beautifully landscaped garden, offers a quiet atmosphere in which to work with the library holdings and to consult the archive materials in accordance with the user regulations.
The library holdings are catalogued in an internal database. The available PC is equipped with internet access and can be used for research in the library catalogue, in various other databases as well as for playing various media.
Via the software module "Kitodo.Präsentation", it is also possible to access a continuously growing collection of high-quality digitally indexed sources from the music and estate holdings of the Orff Centre Munich - including the digital copies of the autograph scores of the BSB repository - as well as the successively available finding aids and media holdings of the research and documentation project "Carl Orff in Bavarian Radio".
The library also has a microfilm reader and a photocopier with scanning function, which can be used on request and after consultation with the library staff. For academic purposes, free WLAN access is also available on request.
