The estate of Carl Orff has been coherently preserved thanks to the foresight of the composer and the commitment of his wife Liselotte (1930-2012). The archive of the Orff Centre Munich contains the entire documentary and a large part of the artistic estate of Carl Orff on permanent loan from the Carl Orff Foundation. For reasons of conservation, the fair copies of his works, the original handwritten scores, are kept in the Bavarian State Library. Despite the two locations of the artistic estate, the unity of the entire collection offers a very differentiated insight into the life, work and oeuvre of Carl Orff. In addition, the estate has been and continues to be expanded and supplemented through active collecting activities.
The archive holdings of the Orff Centre Munich not only serve academic research, but are also a valuable source for the work of professional music and theatre practice as well as music education. The Orff Centre Munich assumes responsibility for the preservation of the composer's cultural heritage and ensures proper storage in accordance with archiving requirements. In 2015, the digitisation of the estate was begun.
